Updates to Google Docs app for Android: Offline access and improved tablet experience

There may be times when you don’t have an Internet connection on your Android device, but you still want access to a file you’ve saved in Google Docs. Now you can select any file in Google Docs to make it available offline. So regardless of whether you’re connected to the internet, you’re always connected to those files.

Even better, Google Docs automatically updates your offline files when you’re on Wi-Fi. You can also manually update files anytime you have a data connection by opening the file or tapping ‘Update’ from the Offline section of the app.

For those of you with Android tablets, we’ve also improved the Google Docs reading experience. Now, when you open a Google document on your tablet while online, you’ll get a high-resolution version of the document. Swipe left and right to flip between pages, or use the slider at the bottom to page ahead quickly.Whether you’re offline or online, these improvements will make it easier to be productive from anywhere...Some nice touches from Google.

Microsoft ships Kinect for Windows, posts finished SDK

On schedule, Microsoft has started shipping the Kinect for Windows add-on and its matching software. The sensor lets those on Windows 7, 8, and Embedded use the motion control from the Xbox with optimizations for the PC world, such as tracking subjects as close as 15.7 inches as well as a PC-oriented USB cable. It costs $249 for anyone, although it will cost $149 for educational users later.

The Software Dev Kit has now reached a finished 1.0 state and has had some improvements since the beta versions. Developers making apps

can handle both the Kinect for Windows sensor's features as well as run as many as four Kinect sensors on one PC. It now lets developers pick a specific person to track, updates the listening to improve speech recognition, and brings a ready-made installer so that an app can install the Kinect sensor at the same time.

Nokia design chief hints at Lumia phones with NFC and wireless charging

Nokia’s new flagship Windows phone,the Lumia 900, has yet to be released, it seems that there are talks of what we will be able to expect from future Nokia Lumia phones. This is thanks to Marko Antissari, Nokia’s head of design, who recently told the Guardian what Nokia is currently up to with their future Lumia handsets.
According to Marko, the Finnish handset manufacturer is currently working together with Microsoft to coordinate software details, such as tile colors, to match hardware accessories. It might seem rather trivial when you think about it, but accessories that match not just the color of the phone, but also the software could have huge implications as far as aesthetics are concerned. Marko may have also indicated that future Lumia phones may feature NFC capabilities along with possible wireless charging.

“If you can take away a moving part and make it [the phone] more beautiful in the placement of the components, we’ll do it, so that’s something where we can certainly keep improving,” Ahtisaari told the Guardian. “Take it to the extreme, and why are there any connectors?”

The use of NFC has been hinted by Microsoft in the past as a possibility they’re exploring, and which Nokia plans to use to pair accessories with the phone simply by tapping them together. On top of that, it seems that future Lumia phones will no longer have the flimsy flip-up plastic tab that covers the micro-USB port, which apparently is one of the gripes that some reviewers had with the Nokia Lumia 800 .

Samsung Galaxy S3 Is Real and will get its Own Launch event in April/May

About a week ago, we reported that the there were rumours that the Samsung Galaxy S3 would not be making its debut at MWC 2012. The successor to the highly-popular Galaxy S2 is a much anticipated device, and with MWC being one of the larger (if not the largest) mobile convention of the year, it was naturally assumed that Samsung would make use of the large crowd and the exposure to launch the Galaxy S3. As it turns out, whoever spread those rumors ended up being right and was confirmed by none other than Samsung themselves who issued the following statement:

“Samsung is looking forward to introducing and demonstrating exciting new mobile products at Mobile World Congress 2012. The successor to the Galaxy S2 smartphone will be unveiled at a separate Samsung-hosted event in the first half of the year, closer to commercial availability of the product. Samsung stays committed to providing the best possible mobile experiences for customers around the world.”

Yup, it looks like all that speculation turned out to be correct about Samsung wanting a smaller gap between its launch and the product’s availability. For those who may have forgotten, the Galaxy S2 was announced early in 2011, and while it might have reached European and Asian markets a few months later, its entry to the US ended up being more than half a year later.
Looks like Samsung is trying to avoid that mistake the second time round. Either way if you’re looking forward to the Samsung Galaxy S3, you’ll be in for a wait over the next few months...April/May is our Guess.

Asus Confirms `Padfone` MWC 2012 Launch

The Asus Padfone, introduced by the manufacturer at the end of may,was initially tipped for a MWC Launch  but now, thanks to Asus itself, we have an official confirmation.
We love the concept Behind the Asus Padphone and think if its marketed at the right price..Asus might have another `PRIME` Success on there hands.

The concept of a smartphone docking deep inside a tablet is appealing and innovative by itself, as are specs like the rumored quad-core nVdia Tegra 3 3 SoC. At the ongoing CES, Asus confirmed, despite having a prototype on display, that the Padfone will be officially unveiled at MWC in Barcelona at the end of February. We'll be there to take a closer look at this hybrid, which will hopefully run Ice Cream Sandwich...its been hinted it will.
