First-Time Smartphone Buyers Prefer Android Over iOS

We recently heard that Apple once again got to the top of the list in terms of market share and user preference and now a recent NPD Group research confirms that the iPhone-maker surpassed Samsung and LG to become the preferred U.S. phone brand in the last quarter of 2011. 43% of the U.S. smartphone market is believed to be a direct effect of the iPhone 4S.

The situation is different though when it comes to first-time smartphone buyers. Those who enter the smartphone world prefer Google's Android over Apple's iOS; in numbers, 57% purchased Android phones while only 34% went for Apple's iPhone. Currently, 68% of the total mobile phone market is represented by smartphones and, out of that huge slice, 90% of smartphone sales goes to Google and Apple.
